Hi unclezeb,

Thanks for reporting the problem. Thankfully, I already knew about it, and it will be fixed in dev 8 (due to come out soon).

Is that normal?

Engaging from Egan to Plinius.
Interaction:
As the Muon enters orbit around Plinius II, you receive a primitive radio message from the surface. The message states that Okkos III, Emperor of the Oskoleb State, requests your presence at his court. It further states that, in accordance with the tradition of the Oskoleb, you must bring along a present for the emperor.
The ship's database identifies the Oskoleb as a form of low-tech sentient life found in most of known space. Apparently, the Oskoleb spread through memory-spores attached to the hull of passing spacecraft, detaching and developing when they find themselves on a suitable planet.
Are you going to follow the summons?
- No
- Yes, but don't bring a present
- Yes, and bring the laser turret as a present.
- Yes, and bring the bucket of space gold as a present.
- Yes, and bring the parasite as a present.
- Yes, and bring the assassinbot as a present.
Answer: Yes, and bring the parasite as a present.
Interaction:
Your chief of security approaches you:
"While I understand the need for you to attend the audience personally, I am worried about your safety. I suggest you go armed - and that I accompany you."
- "No, we don't want to offend our hosts."
- "Yes, that sounds very prudent."
- "Yes - in fact, let's take the AssassinBot and set it to Protect mode."
Answer: "Yes - in fact, let's take the AssassinBot and set it to Protect mode."
Interaction:
The Muon lands in the courtyard of the imperial palace, where the master of ceremonies is waiting. Your delegation file out of the ship, tugging a grav-pallet holding the parasite behind you. The master of ceremonies leads you into the palace, to the throne room, where Emperor Okkos III is waiting. The master of ceremonies introduces you to the emperor:
"These are the human travellers we detected near our planet. They have come before you to pay their respect, and they offer you a present, as is custom."
She signals you to bring the present, and you carefully move the grav-pallet before the emperor's gaze. Okkos III remains seated, and examines the parasite, muttering to himself.
- OK
Answer: OK
Interaction:
Eventually, the emperor returns to his throne, and sits there, pondering. Then, he speaks:
"This is a fine thing you have given me, and I thank you for it."
He spends the next few hours extolling the virtues and riches of his empire and eventually dismisses you. You return to the Muon and leave the planet behind.
- OK
Answer: OK

No, the parasite should definitely not be giveable to the emperor! Apparently the code doesn't check if the ship-addon is actually visible to the player.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We'll fix it in dev 9.

(There's also a related, darkly amusing bug where you can give a pirate prisoner as a present - and he gets exhibited in the "Hall of Presents" by the emperor. Oops.)
