Challenge: Get the antimatter charge intermixer

The hardest single challenge I can find in the game is to get the antimatter charge intermixer from the Pan-Opta. The only way I've seen is to obtain 12 buckets of space gold. Robbing the Zangrolians and double-crossing Alan Smithee gets you 8, and I hoped to sell their Inducers back to them to get the remaining 4... but it seems they didn't want to trade with me after I stole from them. How did they find out? Maybe they have a longer sensor range than I have, and saw me? Or maybe they always automatically find out?

The other way to get the extra 4 would be to mine the gold tunnels, but I've always had really bad luck and lost a lot of guys when I tried to get more than 1 extra bucket.

Has anyone succeeded in getting this item? How did you do it? Better yet, can you get it without making any enemies in the process?

You're generally on the right track. You can also get gold by defeating the Ocranians and looking for it in ruined cities. Also, certain crew members will do a lot better than others in mining gold...

But no, it's no easy task. :)

(I'm currently looking into the best way to record games of SE:SS for purposes of interactive tutorials/advertising/walkthroughs. When I have figured it out, I might see if I can record a really successful game.)

Just to show that it is possible. :)

Ahh, yes, I finally managed to get it as well. My next goal is to destroy the Zangrolian trading vessel, which seems to be quite powerful. Can it be done? Has anyone (besides the developer, that is) managed it yet?

That is the only challenge I have left. Its power is incredible. I have tried many tactics and it seems like even with the best methods it will still take a lot of luck. I don't give up easily though, so I will beat it eventually.

Oh, I would like to add that I have managed to take down the shields and begin hitting the armor of the Zrapta. Very shortly after this they hit me twice and blew me into space dust, but still its progress. At this point, my preferred setup is a plasma laser and a missile launcher and my preferred tactic is to just sit there and keep my evasion at full, hopefully with a pilot providing an extra point of evasion.

That reminds me of a question I have. Has anyone every gotten better than +1 evade from the pilot or has anyone ever gotten an experienced (three dots) pilot?

Final note, this game already is among my favorite games even being still in development. Thank you Zarkonnen for creating it and sharing it with us.

Will this game be released commercially? its great fun, and I'm sure a lot of people would buy it.

Zarkonnen's current plan is to keep the base game free (including future updates) and make expansion packs which can be purchased. Here is a direct quote from the feedback page:

"The basic game will be free, and I will sell one or several expansions. Do you like this distribution model? Do you have any concerns about it?"

I myself like the distribution model as it allows those who are poor to be able to play this great game. (Not the expansions, but the man deserves to be paid for the experience by somebody.)
